As of last Friday, I am 20 weeks pregnant! It seems to be going by very quickly this time around which is most likely because I am constantly busy with a 4 & 1 year old. I'm not complaining...40 weeks is a LONG time!
This past Wednesday we had our "big" ultrasound. Chris & I had decided from the beginning that we wanted to wait to find out the gender this time around since we found out with the other two. We also figured that we really didn't need to purchase anything ahead of time since we have most of what we need for each gender already.
This seemed to be very good logic until last week when I decided that I couldn't fully bond with the baby unless I knew the gender...and I definitely wanted to buy a few outfits ahead of time! :) Not completely sure what Chris would think, I approached him with my new idea & much to my surprise, he wanted to find out as well!
Rather than having the ultrasound technician tell us during the appointment, we decided to have her put the gender photo into an envelope so we could open it later that evening on our own. Fully trusting myself, that envelope sat on the kitchen counter the entire day. I could hardly wait for Chris to get home so we could tear it open. Here are a few of the ultrasound photos. The last one is 3D but because of the way the baby was laying, it is fairly blurry.

We decided to go out for dinner at Red Lobster & brought the envelope along. After the waitress had checked on us for the last time, Chris opened it & laid the ultrasound photo on the table to reveal our baby surprise! It's a girl!!!

It was an awesome moment & we were both SO excited. We told Mackenzie & Preston that evening & it was so much fun. Kenzie definitely wanted a sister so we were very excited to share the news with her. She was full of smiles & giggles. Preston obviously didn't understand :)
Because our family thought we were waiting for delivery day, I wanted to think of a creative way to reveal our news. A friend of mine from college had recently come up with a great idea & I decided to use it as well. Thanks Tiff!
I made a pink cake & frosted it with chocolate so my mom couldn't see the inside until the cake was cut. She thought I had made the cake to celebrate the fact that we were having a baby...haha! Her reaction was great & she said "I knew it!"

Oh, I may have to steal that idea! But what if it's a boy? Blue food coloring in a white cake? Maybe!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea. . .Can't wait to meet our new niece!! Love you guys. We hope we can make it to Christmas, but Ry isn't doing so well. Check out the blog!!
ReplyDeleteThe cake turned out so cute! :) Congrats on the baby girl....I just saw this news today! Are you busy thinking up names? I can't wait to hear what you choose.
